Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Extremism remains a critical challenge in many regions globally, with devastating impacts on peace, development, and societal cohesion. In Nigeria, areas like Madagali Local Government Area in Adamawa State have experienced significant extremism-related challenges. Films have emerged as tools for countering extremist ideologies by fostering dialogue, promoting critical thinking, and offering narratives of hope and resilience (Yusuf & Musa, 2023). Cinematic content tailored to reflect local realities has proven effective in debunking extremist propaganda and promoting peace (Abubakar et al., 2024). This study explores how films are utilized in combating extremism in Madagali, focusing on their role in reshaping ideologies and encouraging positive community engagement.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Extremism continues to threaten the peace and stability of Madagali, despite efforts to combat it. While films offer potential as tools for counter-radicalization, their role in this context has not been fully explored or understood (Garba & Adamu, 2023). This study seeks to fill this gap by investigating the effectiveness of films in addressing extremism in the local context of Madagali.
1.3 Objectives of the Study

The study is focused on the role of films in combating extremism in Madagali Local Government Area, Adamawa State.
